    On-Site Interpretering (OSI)

There are many times when having a sign language interpreter present in person is essential. On-site Interpreting provides a highly interactive and inclusive experience for both deaf and hearing individuals, ensuring seamless communication while allowing interpreters to accurately identify speakers and convey body language and nonverbal cues.

Our skilled, dependable, and friendly ASL interpreters are available onsite whenever and wherever you need them, ensuring clear and effective communication every time. This is one of the most frequently requested services among deaf people, providing access in a variety of settings.

    Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)

Picture being able to connect with an interpreter no matter where you are! Video Remote Interpreting allows seamless communication through web-based video technology. It’s flexible and works in many situations, whether the deaf and hearing participants are in the same room or miles apart.

All you need is a laptop and a reliable internet connection. VRI runs directly in your web browser, making it an easy solution. Our cost-effective VRI service is available whenever you need it, providing real-time access for appointments, interviews, team discussions, and even emergency situations where immediate communication is critical.

    Real-Time Captioning (CART)

Commonly used for live events, Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) provides instant text transcription of spoken words. A trained stenographer or steno typist captures speech in real-time, displaying it on a screen for accessibility. This service can be provided both in person and remotely. The process is similar to how court reporters use specialized equipment to transcribe legal proceedings.

CART is a vital tool that allows many deaf and and hard of hearing individuals to fully participate in classes, meetings, events, and various other activities.

    Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)

A Certified Deaf Interpreter is a deaf or hard of hearing professional with specialized training in interpreting, Deaf culture, and communication strategies. Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), CDIs use a variety of techniques, including gestures, drawings, visual aids, and mime, to ensure clear and effective communication regardless of the deaf client's signing style.

CDIs work in tandem with hearing ASL interpreters. When a CDI is involved, the communication process typically includes four people: the CDI, the hearing ASL interpreter, the deaf client, and you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Some quick answers to common questions about our services.

Yes, the law requires you to provide interpreting services if you interact with at least one Deaf individual. However, offering accessibility accommodations is a good practice for all organizations.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that protects people with disabilities from discrimination in workplaces, schools, transportation, and public spaces. It ensures their inclusion, provides legal protections, and sets standards for accessibility and accommodations.

It depends. If an interpreter is needed for more than two hours with constant, uninterrupted signing throughout, then two interpreters are required due to the physical and mental demands of sign language interpreting.

We accept all major credit cards via Stripe, ACH, Zelle, and checks. Please note that payments must be made directly to ASL Newark or its parent comopany, not to the assigned interpreter.

We provide competitive rates for our sign language interpreting services. If you receive a lower quote from another agency, we’ll aim to match it within 5%. However, quality should always be a top priority when choosing interpreting services.

Reach out to our agency through our contact form, email, or phone. Our friendly team is ready to help you schedule a sign language interpreter that best fits your setting.
